“CP Distributors Working Together: Volatile Organic Compound Towers Utilize Pultex Structural Shapes”
Industrial Plastic Systems Inc. (IPS) of Lakeland Florida and Seasafe Inc of Lafayette Georgia recently combined talents on a substantial project for the city of Delray Beach Florida. Both companies are distributors for Creative Pultrusions Inc.
THE PROBLEM
The city’s water treatment plant required four 10 foot diameter by 57 foot high volatile organic compound scrubbing towers. VOC Towers [or V.O.C. Towers] are used to strip out organic compounds that contaminate drinking water supplies. These compounds include gasoline, paint thinners and solvents that build up in [both] landfills and industrial disposal sites that leak from faulty storage tanks.
APPLICATIONS
CH2M Hill of Gainesville Florida [were] consulting engineers for the project, [who] specified FRP towers because of corrosive chemicals and coastal salt air environments.
THE SOLUTION
IPS was responsible for the specification work and total sales of all FRP items. IPS manufactured the 10 foot diameter towers by the filament winding process with a gel coat finish.
SUCCESS
This fast track project was designed, fabricated and shipped within an eight week period. As a result of this successful project, IPS secured an order of four VOC Towers [from] the City of Fort Pierce Florida.
IN ADDITION TO THE FRP TOWERS
Located 40 feet high, access cage ladders, interconnecting walkways and perimeter work platforms were designed to be fully removable [made with Pultex®]. This feature allows each tower to operate independently from one another, thus providing benefits when it comes time for scrubber repacking.
Because of their extensive work backlog and tight delivery schedule, IPS subcontracted the design detailing and fabrication work for the platforms, walkways and cage ladders to Seasafe Inc. Installation was completed by Elkins Industrial Contractors Inc.
